Iambic Pentameter

Iambic pentameter in a sonnet is revealed through the abstract markers “U”, “—“, and “/”. These visual devices help us see the stressed and unstressed syllables of a written sonnet. Applying these devices to the written sonnet and highlighting sonic structures within it, make the text function more like musical notation. Typography becomes a visual recording of the sound and becomes a visual performance itself.
